According to new research, 54% of British employees claim to have been discriminated against. Age being top of the list.

The trouble is, anyone can claim discrimination if they are unsuccessful with a job application or if they lose their job. Everyone is either, young or older. Male or female, straight or gay, married or not etc etc

Is Blair right to call media ‘a feral beast’?

Posted on June 12, 2007 by legacysystem

Tony Blair has said the media can operate like “a feral beast” and its relationship with politicians is “damaged” and in need of repair.

He said it now threatened politicians’ “capacity to take the right decisions for the country”.

The emergence of internet-based news and 24-hour television news channels meant reports were “driven by impact”, he added.

Do the media have a damaging effect on the country? Is the regulatory system in TV and newspapers strong enough?

Or are they just doing their job?

Most people make decisions based on emotion, most people have an opinion on the political state of the country, and everyone’s entitled to a voice. What anyone’s opinion is, is based on a personal view – unless they’re part of the ‘sheep mentality’, how it’s communicated is what is seen by the masses.

Communicating regularly and honestly with those that can position an individual or a political party ‘correctly’ can only help endorse, persuade, and substantiate ‘claims’ and policies.

Cambridge is Smoke Free from 1st July

Posted on June 3, 2007 by legacysystem

The smoke-free elements of the Health Act 2006 come into effect on 1st July in England. The purpose of the legislation is to protect members of the public and workers from the effects of second hand tobacco smoke whilst in enclosed spaces

One impact of the legislation is the likely further increase in smoking related litter on the streets.

A National media campaign to raise awareness of smoking related litter is launching on Monday 4 June. The key message of the campaign is to change the behaviour of smokers, and ask for their co-operation to dispose of smoking related litter responsibly.

Cambridge City Council is supporting a roadshow involving Streetscene, Rangers, Enforcement and Environemntal Service Officers.
The Grafton, the local fire service and Smoke-free Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Alliance are also supporting the initiative.
The roadshow kicks off at 7.30 at Cambridge Railway Station, followed by activity at The Grafton between 11.30 and 2.30pm.

Tesco is also supporting the campaign, and will stock the ‘Ashcan’ portable ashtray in their stores nationwide.

Stay Legal

It is illegal to use a hand-held mobile whilst driving – whether you are talking or texting – it has been since December 2003. Even if you are using a hands-free mobile device, you will still be breaking the law if you have to hold the phone in order to operate it. It’s only when you get caught or worse are involved in an accident, that people realise how important and vital this law is.

In 2005, 13 deaths and 400 injuries were blamed on drivers using a mobile phone whilst driving.

Give Property a Boost

Posted on by legacysystem

To give the property market a fresh boost – the interest rate would need to be reduced. This would encourage more people to consider selling and upgrading, and would help first time buyers get on the ladder.
Since HIPS has been delayed, significantly less properties are coming onto the market – which in turn, causes high prices – due to the lack of supply.
If interest rates come down, more properties would become available, and prices would stabilise – meaning that home owners would be able to afford to ‘trade up’ and the chain effect would start again.

The Hip Choice

Think twice before you take out a sales package that includes a Home Information Pack, says Andrew Bush, managing director of Bush Property Services.

June 1st sees the advent of Home Information Packs, or HIPs, and already some estate agents are touting sales packages that include them.

Bush, however, isn’t among them, and according to Andrew Bush there’s a very good reason for that – namely that one size of HIP doesn’t fit all.
