Alzheimers to Benefit from Marathon Effort

Posted on October 23, 2007 by legacysystem

Sarah-Jane Jarrold of SJPR is following up her successful completion of last year’s New York Marathon by competing in Dublin this coming Monday.

Like last year, Sarah-Jane is raising money for The Alzheimer’s Society, but this time around the funds will be going to a local branch, rather than the charity’s head office.

“The Cambridge and Ely branch of The Alzheimer’s Society does a superb job of supporting my mum as well as thousands of others and, by giving the money locally, I hope to be able to benefit people suffering from this terrible disease who live in Cambridge and the surrounding area.”

Last year, Sarah-Jane raised over £6,000 and finished the course in 4h 31. This year she hopes to improve on both figures.

“This will be my last full marathon – the training has played havoc with my feet and my knees and the training is very time consuming – so I’d like to go out with a bang. I’ll be undertaking some other fundraising venture in 2008… watch this space.”

But it won’t all be hard work. “Next Monday just happens to be a Bank Holiday in Ireland and I’ve got some very special friends coming over to support me. I daresay there might be a small celebration after the race.”

To sponsor Sarah Jane, e-mail your pledge to sj@sjpr.co.uk or send a cheque (left blank or made payable to Sarah-Jane Jarrold) to SJPR Ltd c/o 14 Blackthorn Close Cambridge CB4 1FZ.

Natural Good Looks and The Right Attitude

Posted on October 15, 2007 by legacysystem

As part of the Cambridge Evening News Modelsearch competition over 120 hopefuls strutted their stuff at the Grafton Shopping Centre, Cambridge, on Wednesday 10 October, at the casting sessions for the thirteen catwalk shows that are planned between Sunday 21 to Wednesday 22 October.

“This is the third year we have run the competition and we have never had such a good response, “ said Mick Knowles, compere for the evening. “The judges had a really tough time choosing the team of 28 finalists, and could have easily cast the show several times over.”

Judges from Top Shop, Clarks and Envy, along with previous winners Rachael Furmston and Malgorzata Kuranda, and choreographer Julie Dammers, spent over four hours viewing the contestants on a purpose built runway to see who had the best moves and the best looks.

The final selection was a genuine mix of colourings, styles, ages and sizes.

“The key attributes of a good model is a combination of natural good looks, the right attitude and the ability to arrive on time looking their best. In spite of work, college and school commitments, the models got to the competition on time and were as energetic and enthusiastic on the catwalk as they were elegant and good looking,” said Julie Dammers who will rehearse with the team of finalists on Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Saturday 20 October for the four day fashion catwalk spectacular that will take place on Sunday 21, Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 October.

At Wednesday’s Gala Show, one male and one female winner will be chosen from each of the five age categories as the overall winners and will attend a photo shoot for a series of fashion features in the Cambridge Evening News.
